Doctor of Philosophy in Technology Education( Options-Electrical and Electronics, Mechanical and Civil Engineering)

TITLE OF THE PROGRAM

The title of this program shall be Doctor of Philosophy (PhD.) in Technology Education ((Electrical Engineering Technology, Mechanical Engineering Technology, and Building & Construction Engineering Technology).

A student shall have an option to undertake any one of the following options:

  1. Doctor of Philosophy in Technology Education (Electrical and Electronic Engineering Technology)
  2. Doctor of Philosophy in Technology Education (Mechanical Engineering Technology)
  3. Doctor of Philosophy in Technology Education (Building & Construction Engineering Technology)

DURATION OF STUDY

This is a three (3) year programme with the first year focusing on coursework. The remaining two (2) years, the learner shall embark on proposal development, data collection and thesis writing.

ADMISSION REQUIREMENTS FOR THE PHD IN TECHNOLOGY EDUCATION

The common regulations for admission requirements in all Ph.D. Degrees Programmes of Murang’a university of Technology shall apply.   In addition to the above, the candidate shall be a holder of a relevant Master’s Degree of Murang’a University of Technology or its equivalent from other universities recognized by Murang’a University of Technology Senate and Commission for University Education (CUE).

EXPECTED LEARNING OUTCOMES

A graduate of Doctor of Philosophy Degree in Technology Education should be able to:

  • Initiate and carry out research in the area of Technology Education
  • Critique technology education theories and practices.
  • Evaluate curricular development and implementation in technology education
  • Develop instructional systems in Technology Education

MODE OF DELIVERY

The mode of delivery shall be face to face

COURSE REQUIREMENTS

A student shall be required to:

  • Attend at least 2/3 of lectures to be allowed to sit for end of semester examinations
  • Conduct research and make presentations in seminars
  • Write and publish at least two (2) research papers in peer reviewed journals before submitting research report
  • Present a research report to a panel in line with the post-graduate studies policy

GRADING SYSTEM

The marks earned by a student in respective courses including research and thesis shall be graded as follows

GRADUATION REQUIREMENTS

A candidate shall graduate with a PhD in Technology Education (Electrical Engineering Technology, Mechanical Engineering Technology, and Building & Construction Engineering Technology) after satisfying the following:

  1. Passed all common and specialization courses
  2. Submit to the school evidence of acceptance for publication of two (2) research papers in refereed journals
  3. Submit bound copies of thesis to the Directorate of Post Graduate Studies (6 copies)
  4. Submit one (1) soft copy (in CD) to the Directorate of Post Graduate Studies
  5. Cleared by other relevant University departments including finance and library.
