Bachelor of Education Science

ADMISSION REQUIREMENTS FOR THE PROGRAMME

Passed with a minimum of grade C+ in the two (2) teaching subjects in the Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education (KCSE) or its equivalent in the following subjects – Biology/Biological Science, Chemistry/Physical Science, Mathematics, Physics, and Computer Studies/Science.

For students wishing to choose Computer Studies as a teaching subject, the Mathematics grade shall be considered as the basis for choice as a teaching subject in line with the Teachers Service Commission guidelines.

KNEC diploma or its equivalent.

DURATION OF STUDY

Four (4) academic years.

EXPECTED LEARNING OUTCOMES

By the end of the four-year program, the learner should be able to:

  1. Demonstrate knowledge and skills that will enable them be competent educators in the area of Pedagogy
  2. Be knowledgeable in broad areas of Education (Science);
  3. Relate theories of growth and development with knowledge and skills for teaching students from varied social economic backgrounds
  4. Be capable of designing and carrying out experiments to explain theories and concepts Education
  5. Be in a position to articulate arguments to approve or disapprove scientific theories and observations; and
  6. Demonstrate a solid foundation that can enable them pursue further studies in Education

MODE OF DELIVERY OF THE PROGRAMME

The mode of delivery shall be Face to Face (Full-time and Part-time).

CLASSIFICATION OF DEGREES

The degree awarded shall be B.Ed. Science. The Degree awarded shall be classified in accordance with the mean score of the aggregated marks of the unit obtained for the degree course study.  Accordingly, the B.Ed. Science shall be classified as follows;

Mean Aggregate Marks                                      Class of the Degree

80% ≤ Average Mark ≤ 100%                                   First Class Honours

70% ≤ Average Mark < 80%                                      Second Class Honours (Upper Division)

60% ≤ Average Mark < 70%                                      Second Class Honours (Lower Division)

50% ≤ Average Mark < 60%                                      Pass
